Why You Should Not Just Ignore An Outdoor Mouse Problem

Posted on

If you come across a lot of mice outside in your yard, you might figure they belong there — and you can just ignore them. This may be true if they are way off in a field somewhere, a long walk from your actual home. But if the mice are within a short walk of your home, or other buildings in your property, ignoring their presence is not wise. Here are a few reasons why it's smart to call a pest control company if there are mice near your home.

They May Move Into Your Home When the Weather Changes.

If the weather is mild right now, the mice are probably perfectly happy living outside in whatever nests they have currently built. But when the weather changes, the mice will start looking for a warmer, more isolated place to stay. That may be when they find a way into your house, garage, shed, or other structure. Eliminating mice from between walls or from other secluded areas inside of a building is much harder than removing them from an outdoor area. Because of this, you want to have a pest control company come out before the weather changes.

They Carry Diseases.

You might think mice are cute, but they are more dangerous than their tiny body size suggests. Mice carry a lot of diseases, including Hantavirus, a pretty serious respiratory ailment, and Salmonella, a bacterium that can cause digestive distress. You don't want them spreading pathogens over your garden, the handrails that you use when you enter and exit your home, or in the water puddles your dog may drink from when unattended for a minute. Having the mice exterminated is a smart choice for your health.

They May Attract Predators.

The little mice themselves may not really bother you, but the predators that come after mice certainly will! So many different predators eat mice: hawks, cats, skunks, snakes, and in some areas, lizards. If you don't take care of the mouse infestation, you may soon notice more of these animals moving into your space. They can spread additional diseases, prove a threat to your pets, and wreak havoc on your landscaping. Have a pest control service get rid of the mice now so you're not asking them to get rid of an entire zoo a few months down the road!

It's definitely better to find mice outside than inside, but you still don't want to let them stay there. Find a company near you that offers mice extermination services.
