3 Creative Uses For Old Bath Towels At Home

Posted on

If you have a rather large family, towels will probably be a big part of your laundry everyday. So much use means that you will likely see an endless supply of towels come up that have holes, frayed ends, or bleach spots. At the end of the day, you could always just donate the old towels to your local animal shelter or veterinarian (as these are always in high demand at places like this), but there are also a lot of fun and creative ways you can make use of these everyday commodities once they have served their original purpose.

Create a pouch to carry your personal grooming necessities.

With a rectangular piece of an old bath towel and a needle and thread, you can create a rightly sized personal grooming pouch that is ideal for packing along with you when you travel. Fold up one end of the towel piece and use your needle and thread to sew small pockets sizable enough to tuck in things like your toothbrush and toothpaste, a razor, or a brush. Once the items are tucked inside, you can simply roll up the pouch and tuck it into your suitcase. This will keep your necessities in a safe place, but also protect everything else in your suitcase from leftover moisture after these items have been used.

Cut old towels into new placemats for messy eaters.

If you have little ones in the house, you already know it can be a huge chore when mealtime rolls around. Little ones often prefer to use their hands while they eat and may be quite clumsy with a spoon or fork, which can lead to a lot of spills and mishaps. Cut your old bath towels into small rectangular pieces that you can easily pull out and place at the table when your little messy eater has lunch or breakfast, and cleanup time will be much less problematic.

Create a drying mat for wet shoes in your entryway.

If you have ever had the chance to make an old-fashioned rag rug, you know how simple this process can be. Rag rugs are made with torn or cut strips of material, which could easily be strips from old towels. To form the drying mat, you simply knot the strips of material together repeatedly until you have a sizeable rectangular shape. The towels will be absorbent enough to trap any moisture dripping from soiled shoes, and the best part is, the mat can be tossed in the washer when it gets too soiled or wet.
